An Interview for International Women's Day
I was interviewed as part of International Women’s Day, both on my journey as a women in business and about Ochre!, you can read more below!
What's the best piece of advice someone has given you?
I think ‘baby steps’ sometimes we want it all to happen quickly, we want to ‘be a success’ it’s funny it’s been 5 years of Ochre, it’s been a slow journey. But I can say wholeheartedly I have been true to myself and always nurtured the connection to my customers… and now looking back that’s what I’m most proud of and I think that’s from just going slow… take baby steps, and one day you look back and think ‘wow I have come a long way’
How can we continue to evolve and develop as a woman in business?
I think community has power! When we support and hero each other we really see people shine. Through education, mentoring, funding to projects… Theses are ways I believe we can continue to grow, develop and support ANYONE in business.
What is the surprise!! Where are you taking Ochre?
It’s a little scary, but scary is sometimes good… I now will be creating a collection of one-off pieces or small batch pieces as ‘CAPSULES’ these ‘CAPSULES’ will be launched quarterly, when I have a new body of work made and (of course) beautifully photographed for you. These ‘CAPSULES’ will include luxury ceramic homewares, lighting + bespoke fine metal jewellery.
I am looking forward to exploring different clays, glazes, shapes and textures. Creating beautiful bespoke jewellery using different silversmithing techniques and incorporating my favourite precious stones.
I am looking at this as a shift from a ‘brand’ to working more as an ‘artist’
If you had advice for woman wanting to start a business what would it be?
“… To try and understand the reason ‘why’ you want to start your business, it could be a personal one eg. To have more creative freedom. Or it could be the driving ethos of your business eg. To solve a problem.
Once your clear on ‘why’ I think it helps you to keep going and stay on ‘your path’ even when it’s hard you can come back to your ‘Why’”
